Excellent project managers are in demand
1.232 people successfully completed the internationally valid pma/IPMA® certification in 2018. pma President Brigitte Schaden summarizes.
January 31, 2019 - More than one third of value creation is generated by projects, as a German study shows; and the trend is rising. Many tasks can now only be handled through project work. "Innovation is no longer possible without project management know-how," says Brigitte Schaden, president of pma - Projekt Management Austria, Austria's leading association for project management. pma is a member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA®) and acts as the official certification body in Austria.
Career and innovation turbo
Certifications according to the pma/IPMA® standard are considered a coveted seal of quality and are an integral part of career planning. They stand for professionalism and internationality and are recognized in over 70 countries and on all continents. As proof of competence, also for soft skills, certifications are increasingly demanded in job advertisements and selection processes. "A development that we as Project Management Austria welcome," says Brigitte Schaden. "Professional project management and excellent project managers are in demand today as never before. Those who want to prove their competencies therefore get certified according to the pma/IPMA® standard."
Certification as a competitive advantage
The fact that proof of PM competencies is seen as a competitive advantage by women and men alike is also reflected in the number of certifications. "1.232 people successfully completed certification or re-certification to the pma/IPMA® standard last year," Brigitte Schaden sums up. Of these, 57 percent are men and 43 percent are women. In total, there are now around 18.000 pma/IPMA® certified project managers* in Austria, and internationally there are over 300.000 according to IPMA®; and the trend continues to rise. "Companies also benefit from certification, for example by providing proof of PM competence to clients or in public tenders," says Brigitte Schaden.
Quality seal for project management
Project managers can be certified at various levels (IPMA® Level D, Level C, Level B and Level A). The level of knowledge and experience plays a role. After successful certification, project managers can use the short name of the respective certification level after their name. Certification must be renewed every five years (re-certification). "Whether as a seal of approval or as a turbo for career and innovation, anyone who wants to manage projects successfully today gets certified," says Brigitte Schaden.
